SecureDelete combats identity theft problem from second hand PCs

The use of SecureDelete from Diskeeper Corporation is an effective way to securely wipe all data from the computer hard drive ensuring that no access to personal data can be obtained.

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the UK and worldwide. A report this month by the BBC’s Real Story programme revealed that bank account details belonging to thousands of Britons are being sold in West Africa for less than £20 where, subsequently, access to personal data, including bank details can be retrieved for criminal use. The recycling of second hand computers can be a potential treasure trove of personal information as it is possible for fraudsters to easily access personal banking data - putting the original owners of these PCs at risk of fraud and identity theft.

It is not enough simply to delete files from a pc as it is still possible to access this data unless the hard drive, where all data is stored, is properly wiped.

An easy and effective solution to securely erase data is by using specialist software such as SecureDelete, one of features included in Undelete® 5, from leading software provider, Diskeeper Corporation. The SecureDelete function ensures that files are purged from the hard drive using a methodology developed for the National Security Agency. This ensures that whatever happens to your PC once you have disposed of it, all personal details, or any other information, is completely wiped from the records, beating the fraudsters and keeping user’s personal details safe.

20 Million Licences Sold - How Did That Happen ?

It’s good to know that more and more people are becoming aware of the necessity of regular defragmentation of their systems and PCs. Evidence of this can be seen by the fact that Diskeeper Corporation has now sold a massive 20 million licences worldwide. How did that happen? It certainly didn’t happen because customers see our automatic defragmentation software as a ‘nice to have’.

The destructive effects of fragmentation are being increasingly recognised as a key issue for businesses. Additionally more and more customers who know about these issues are coming back to us with great feedback explaining how they couldn’t be without Diskeeper and also, encouragingly, how they have already recommended it to their friends.

It does however, continue to amaze me the number of people out there, who are supposedly computer savvy, who are still unaware of what fragmentation is, let alone the destruction it can cause. However, with Diskeeper, these problems can be quickly and easily solved meaning less worry, fewer problems and faster and more efficient PCs and networks. And for anyone operating in a business capacity, this of course means both cost savings and higher productivity and hence – higher profits. With results like this therefore, why would anyone NOT want Diskeeper ?
